Came recommended by a local and several articles; A cute little spot with lots of fuss about reservations, though it seemed quite empty for a Sunday brunch. Definitely not that big of a deal! We enjoyed our breakfast and coffee. Everything was delicious--Shakshuka was yum, the sourdough toast was great (though a bit hard to bite), and the porridge was standard.

so sad to hear they are closing! we greatly enjoyed their skillets, which are served piping hot. the shakshuka and alla boscaiola are server with similar tomato sauce bases, which is different than some other shakshukas which use more tomato chunks. the bread is crispy on the outside and fluffy core, a perfect vehicle for the eggs and the meat and sauce. i do wish they used better quality eggs with orange yolks, if they're planning on charging $22 for a skillet.

Very sad to hear that the Fat Hen will be closing next month on September 13th, 2024, to be exact. Been here a couple of times and have had good dining experiences. Always ordered the Shakshuka and each time it was consistently good. The place itself isn't big in size, but that made it feel cozy especially during the winter months in Seattle. Thank you for the delicious food and I wish the owners good luck in their future endeavors in whatever they do!

Was looking for a brunch place to go with my gal friends when The Fat Hen popped up, so I decided to give it a try late morning on a Wednesday. There was an empty table when we got there, and we didn't have to wait. Immediately as I entered, I thought "how cute is this little cafe"! It's tucked in a neighborhood and gave me Portland vibes for some reason. The menu has a fair amount of food and drink options. I got the shakshuka and italian hazelnut + chocolate cold brew. Cold brew wasn't anything special, but shakshuka was great! Very hearty meal. Does seem a little pricey for the portion tho. The menu indicates there's a 20% service fee added automatically, but what I wasn't expecting was that there's also a 3% fee for credit card payment. It would've been nice to know this beforehand as well. My friends both got matcha drinks. One was a regular matcha with vanilla syrup and the other was their strawberry matcha. Strawberry matcha was written on the board, and i think it may be a seasonal item? Anyway, my friend who got regular matcha requested for it to be "sweeter". The server kindly mentioned that they use matcha powder and if she wants it sweet, she can add vanilla syrup which she did. It seems like since my friend wanted it sweeter, they used less matcha powder as it was noticeably paler than my friend's strawberry matcha. I gave it a try, and indeed it didn't taste much like matcha. As for the strawberry matcha, I was thinking it would be layered with pink (strawberry milk) and green (matcha), but it just looked like matcha. I was curious and tried it. The strawberry taste was surprisingly but appropriate there, although a tad too sweet.

The Camicia was incredible! I absolutely loved the combination of ricotta and egg in the tomato sauce. Our dishes did take a bit long to arrive. We came here on a Monday for brunch, with reservation. A reservation is a must for this place! My latte was okay. I ordered a latte with vanilla syrup. The place is a bit small but that wasn't really an issue for us since it wasn't too crowded. I imagine on weekends it might be more busy. The wait staff was friendly and overall I would check this place out again!

The Fat Hen is one of my favorite brunch spots in Seattle. My friend and I came to The Fat Hen on a Saturday morning, and we got seated almost immediately because someone canceled their reservation. We were told initially that the wait would be almost 2 hours long and almost left for something else. We got lucky! My friend ordered the Shakshuka and I ordered the Camicia skillet (egg, tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, basil). My skillet was very cheesy, hearty, and rich in flavor. Both skillets came with a decent amount of toasted baguette. We both got latte as well, which was nothing special but good. Since it is located in a more residential neighborhood, parking is fairly easy. I'd definitely come back!

One of my all-time favorite brunch spots in Seattle. A little cafe located within a quiet neighborhood. The roads are a bit crowded, but you're bound to find street parking around the area. We ordered: Shakshuka - Hearty, savory, and so comforting. The aroma is inviting with its earthy spices and simmered tomato freshness. I would eat this everyday if I could. Alla Boscaiola - Cheesy and divinely rich. If you want something more meatier this would be a better alternative to the original shakshuka. Ricotta Toast (seasonal) - Loved the date and ricotta presentation. Its sweet profile provided a good balance w/ the shakshuka savoriness. Though a small hidden cafe, this place gets awfully busy. Reservations are a must unless you're okay with waiting 20 - 45mins. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Definitely the BEST traditional brunch spot I've had in Seattle - they deserve their spot on the top 100 brunch spots of Yelp! Super cute, small cafe with 7 tables indoors and 2 outdoors and full tables even on a Thursday at noon. Definitely come on a weekday with a reservation if you can! The Alla Boscaiola was delicious and cheesy; the Eggs Benedict with Pancetta was the best benedict I've had in Seattle! Highly recommend their smashed potatoes as well. Service was friendly and gratuity of 20% is automatically added. Check their special board on the wall - they had a crab benedict up today that I didn't notice until too late. It's in a neighborhood where you'll need to find residential street parking, which I would assume to be difficult on the weekends.
